A graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Wrocław, doctor of veterinary sciences, and specialist in dog and cat diseases. Since 2006, she has run her own veterinary clinic, PRAK-VET, in Oleśnica. She also continuously collaborates with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Wrocław, guest-teaching classes in hematology as part of the courses Clinical Immunology and Clinical Analytics.

She is the author of publications related to hematology and oncology, as well as numerous translations, including the book “Practical Hematology of Dogs and Cats” by R. Mieschke, several chapters of the hematology atlas “Veterinary Hematology: A Diagnostic Guide with Color Atlas” by J. W. Harvey, a handbook on canine and feline oncology published by Galaktyka, and the hematology chapter in the latest two-volume edition of “Clinical Practice: Cats.”

She also conducts hematology workshops in cooperation with various training organizations, sharing her extensive experience. She continually expands her knowledge by participating in numerous conferences, courses, and workshops. Her goal is to bring hematology topics closer to practicing veterinarians.

SPECIMEN FOR ANALYSIS

Submit 4–8 slides for the examination:

  • 4–6 slides prepared using the slanted-slide method with a flowing drop (how to perform?)
  • 2 slides prepared in the standard way (like a blood smear)
  • the remaining bone marrow after slide preparation (the marrow should be sent in a sealed container, WITHOUT formalin)

Sending bone marrow alone is not recommended due to its low stability.

Slides should be prepared immediately after collecting the bone marrow.

ATTENTION

To perform the examination, it is necessary to include the patient’s medical history, copies of test results (or their reference numbers), and a completed questionnaire.

MYELOGRAM QUESTIONNAIRE
Information regarding the patient and the case is crucial for the proper evaluation of the submitted material.
Lack of this information may prevent correct interpretation of the myelogram.

How to prepare a sample for examination

Preparing the sample using the slanted-slide method

  1. Place the bone marrow aspirate containing blood on one end of a microscope slide (the end with the labeling area).
  2. Position the slide vertically on a paper towel, allowing the blood to flow downward freely (the marrow particles should adhere to the slide).
  3. Place a second microscope slide across the first one (at the spot where the marrow particles are located).
  4. Hold the slides together, allowing the marrow to spread between them.
  5. With a quick motion, slide the two slides apart and let them air-dry (there is no need to use fixatives such as Cytofix or to stain the slides).
